Tortuguero National Park Costa Rica
Tortuguero National Park is located south of Parismina, Costa Rica. It has 31,186 hectares of land and 52,000 marine hectares. The Tortuguero Canals were created with natural lakes and rivers.
Climate.
The climate is humid in Tortuguero; annual rainfall reaches 6000 mm in the northern part of the park. It is one of the wettest areas of the country. There really is no dry season, but usually less rain in February, March and October.
Flora and fauna.
Tortuguero is famous for nesting Leatherback and Green turtles on their beaches. In the park there are quantities of monkeys, frogs, iguanas, fish, crocodiles, manatees, lions and many other animals.
Tortuguero is one of the most important parks in Costa Rica, for its great variety of species of plants, reptiles, amphibians and mammals. There is no roads and no cars in the village, all transportation is by boat or walking.
